November 17th, 2017

Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians:

Please see the message below from our PTO fundraising chair persons Kim Caster and Lisa Zook.

Dear Newton Community,

We did it!  The school really rallied the last week and pushed us to our fundraising goal.  As of October 31, 2017, the PTO collected a total of $30, 451.  Additional donations may continue to come in throughout the year and through different programs like Newton Knights Out and we will continue to report that income.  We would like to thank Mr. O'Tremba, the teachers, the staff, the students, and the parents for coming together to support the PTO Annual Fund Drive.  Because it is the only major fundraising push for the school year, it was important that we finished the campaign strong.  We will be able to support the resurfacing of the gym floor and other school programming and activities like Reading Counts and teacher grants.

Here are the results of the Homeroom Competition:

Winners:

6th Grade:   May
7th Grade:   Alles
8th Grade:   Ebel

This week the 6th graders watched a play called People Like Vince.  People Like Vince is a play for students that seeks to reduce the stigma of mental health issues through the social and emotional learning core competencies.  This program, offered through Kaiser Permanente, is focused on empathy and kindness, two of the most important social and emotional learning skills that help reduce the stigma around mental health and wellness.

We strive to promote acceptance of differences among all people that we encounter and show them kindness and empathy.  On Wednesday during homeroom, the students were given a workbook with follow up activities.  Some teachers chose to keep the workbooks in their classes to continue to follow up throughout the year and others might have chosen to send the workbooks home.  If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Rahne 303-347-7940.

Please see the attached flyer from Jesse Andrews regarding yearbook baby ads. The deadline to submit your baby ads for the 8th graders for the yearbook is December 1st. If you have any questions please contact Jesse.

Tomorrow will be the last opportunity to give your input on the school culture and climate survey. We would like to hear from you. Pleases access the link below to access the survey!

Have a safe, enjoyable Thanksgiving.

James O’Tremba

Principal, Newton Middle School
