Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians:

Important information regarding potential student walkouts.

In response to the shootings that took place in February in Parkland Florida, students across the country are organizing demonstrations and walkouts in protest of the violence. The scheduled walkout date is March 14th at 10:00 am. Please note the information listed below regarding how this will be handled here at Newton Middle School.

The district expectations for middle school are as follows:

  • At the middle school level, supervised space will be provided for students who choose to participate in the 17 minute walkout.  Students must stay on school property in the supervised area unless signed out by a parent/guardian. Students are expected to return to class following the walkout.

If students choose to walk out of the classroom here at Newton the space that I have designated are the two courtyards in the middle of the building. Administration and our school resource officer will assist students to the courtyards and supervise. Our teachers will remain in the classrooms with their students that choose to stay. I have chosen the courtyards as they are a safe space within our school grounds and students will not be exposed to the outside areas. At the end of the 17 minutes students will be escorted back to class. If you choose for your student to leave the building/school grounds a parent/guardian will need to check the student out at the front desk in the main office per our normal procedures.

If you have any questions regarding the walk outs please feel free to contact me.

Newton KNight Out
Make it a Taco Tuesday at the March Newton Community KNight next week!  Please join us on Tuesday, March 13 at Qdoba SouthGlenn from 4:30pm-8:30pm. Mention Newton and 20-30% of associated sales (the more sales, the higher the %!) will be donated back to benefit our school.  Please spread the word and see you there!

Thanks for your continued support. Have a great weekend.
