November 10th, 2023

 Good Afternoon Parents/Guardians and Students:

Newton Student Council Information:

When we return from Thanksgiving break student council and NJHS are hosting a food drive to benefit the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army across the street helps many people in our community throughout the year. To have a FUN reminder for our food drive this Friday will be “Flannel Food Drive Friday”!!! Wear flannel on our last day before break and remember to bring canned food items when we return!

Building Need:

It’s that time of year again where we are in need of tissues for our students. If you can donate a box or two of tissue and send it into the main office or drop it off yourself that would be helpful for our classrooms……Thanks in advance for your support.

PTO Update:

ANNUAL FUND GIVING:

The PTO wants to thank everyone for their generosity thus far in completing the annual fund donation through infinite campus this year.  Your generosity has gotten us halfway to our desired goal of helping reimburse teachers for supply expenses, provide grants for teachers to attend seminars and conferences to improve their craft, and help replace the 10 year old computers in the school computer lab.

Please consider donating if you have not already so that the computer lab can have its devices currently replaced.  We are asking for $150 from each family but any donation can make a big difference (and a BIG donation can make a BIG difference!).

HOLIDAY PARADE AT SOUTHGLENN:

The Streets at Southglenn is sponsoring a holiday parade on November 17th from 6-8pm.  The PTO would like to gauge community interest in sponsoring a Newton Float or Classic Car.  If we create an entry, we can earn extra points toward our Streets of Southglenn points total for the year which can earn the PTO up to $2,000 to put toward the school.  Please contact newtonptopres@gmail.com if you are interested in providing a classic car or vehicle pulling a trailer to decorate.

Annual District Culture and Climate Survey:

We will begin the annual Culture and Climate Survey with our students after we return from Thanksgiving break. This will be conducted through our Language Arts. Sixth grade will begin on Monday after break. Just a reminder this is not part of Language Arts and is not to be associated with a grade or an assignment. We just need a little more time than homeroom or Knight Time allows to complete the survey. We will also survey our staff and parents. I’ll send information for the parent segment out after Thanksgiving break. If you have any questions please contact your grade level administrator.

Chess Tournament:

Our district chess tournament will be held here at Newton on December 9th. This year the event is free of charge, no registration fee at all. Please access the following two links regarding additional information:

Thanks and have a great weekend.
