NEW INFORMATION FOR APRIL 4

CMAS TESTING STARTS MONDAY MORNING

CMAS Testing Information

Beginning on April 7th, students across the state will take the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS or CoAlt) which assess what students need to know and be able to do at the end of each grade level according to the Colorado Academic Standards.  In grades 6-8, students will take the English Language Arts and Mathematics assessments. Students in grade 8 will also be assessed in Science. In addition, our school was selected by the Colorado Department of Education for grade 7 students to complete the Social Studies assessment this year. For additional information, please refer to the CMASTesting 2024-2025 Notification - Newton Parent Letter

The statewide assessments are designed for all students and are a part of our school accreditation and federal requirements. Make-up tests will be necessary for those absent; therefore, we request that you please try to avoid medical/dental and other appointments during testing times. For specific dates and times, please refer to the NMS Testing Schedule.

Some of you have reached out for more information and here is a link to any forms, including exemptions, that you may need access to, from the district website. Assessment Schedules and Info | Littleton Public Schools

Lastly, students that are choosing to opt-out or exempting out of testing need to be called in and we will excuse the students during the testing times.  They should return for their classes and would be unexcused if they do not attend the regular classes after the testing.  If you are unable to bring your children after testing, students may come at their regular time and they will be able to read quietly in our library during our testing times.  When the testing window ends, we will send them to class.

7th Graders… National Junior Honor Society

Invitations to apply for membership in the Isaac Newton Chapter of National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) were emailed to some 7th Grade students yesterday morning. These invitations were based on a body of evidence including academic and work habit excellence as well as behavioral records during their time in middle school.

NJHS is a student-led organization that promotes service, citizenship and leadership.  Our members strive to achieve academic and personal excellence, demonstrate unfailing leadership, seek involvement in the community through community service, demonstrate good character, and dedicate themselves to the ongoing endeavor of scholarship.  We seek to build capacity for students utilizing the five pillars of NJHS (Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship).

If your child received an invitation and is interested in applying for consideration, please remind them that applications and teacher recommendation requests are due no later than Monday April 14th.

Arapahoe CU is just the intermediary.

What we are doing: This is a free community shred and electronic recycling event with shredding, small electronics recycling, and a food truck! We are asking for any support you can give towards Newton Middle School student programs. Arapahoe CU will be providing free, on-site shredding and electronic recycling.

Arapahoe Credit Union would rather spend our marketing dollars providing a service and raising money for students than simply advertising. Whatever you want to send to Newton Middle School is great and feel free to still rid yourself of old documents at no cost.  Click here for more information

Just a friendly reminder that if you are going to pick your child up during the school day, PLEASE CALL AHEAD.  If you have an appt at 3pm, call long before then.  It can take upwards of 15 minutes to get your child to the office if you just show up without alerting us ahead of time.
