September 7th, 2012

Hello Parents/Guardians: We had a great 50th Anniversary celebration last week. I want to thank everyone who attended and helped plan and organize the event. We estimated that we had over 1,000 people in attendance. What a wonderful community to work in! We look forward to the next 50 years!

We also had our first PTO meeting of the year last week. As you may be aware we no longer conduct a magazine sales or fundraiser through the school that students need to sell any items for. Two years ago we decided to do a pledge drive in order to raise money for the school through PTO.  In the past we have raised money to purchase document cameras and SMART Boards for all of our teachers, replace our desk top computers for our computer labs, purchase all new tables for our lunch room, purchase new rugs for our hallways and support our school in numerous other manners. If you have not given a pledge or volunteered for events I strongly encourage you to do so. Our goal this year is to raise $24,000, we have currently raised $15,000 through the pledge drive.

The PTO is working hard to provide many of the services, events and teacher support which greatly enhance your child's experience at Newton. We hope you will take a moment to read the attached form and consider how you can help us reach the goal of pledges in money and/or in volunteer time. We are also hoping to include 100% of the students in the Student Directory but need your permission to do so. In order to be in the Directory or to make a pledge of any kind, please be sure to print, complete and return the form to the school by the September 20th Directory deadline. We appreciate the support from our families and communities in making this a great place for students to attend school and for our staff to teach. Thanks for all of your help! Have a great weekend.
