Good Afternoon Parents/Guardians:
We had an excellent kickoff assembly for PBIS this afternoon. We were able to dedicate our No Place for
Hate banner that we received last spring to start off the assembly. We are the only school in LPS that
is designated as a No Place for Hate school and we are one of forty five in the entire state. For more
information regarding No Place for Hate please check our school website.
This year we decided to have an interactive assembly with the students. Students competed against
each other, staff and parents in several different games. The results are as follows: Parents and Staff
teams tied for first place overall. Among the student competition our 8 th grade came in first and were
allowed to leave school 3 minutes early as a prize. Second place went to the sixth grade and in third
place was our seventh grade. My boss, Clay Abla, the director of secondary education served as the
master of ceremony and was gallantly dressed in Newton Knight attire. Pictures will soon be released!
We held our firs Newton Accountability Meeting last night in our library. We will upload the notes to
each meeting on our Newton Website under the parent tab. We would like to welcome anyone who
would like to attend. Our meetings are generally the third Thursday of the month with a couple of
exceptions. We will finalize our meeting schedule for the year and post that on the website. We are in
need of a secretary so if someone would like to volunteer for that position we would greatly appreciate
the help.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and we’ll see the students back on Monday morning.
Respectfully,
James O’Tremba
Principal, Newton Middle School
