October 5th, 2012

Good Afternoon Parents/Guardians:

With the snow and the cold weather this morning I want to remind parents and students of our policies
regarding inclement weather. Students are expected to be outside most days unless we have severe,
inclement weather. This decision will be made in the morning before 7:30 am if we allow students into
the building. If the weather is severe we allow students into the building at or before 7:30 am and they
can wait in the cafeteria until the first bell rings. I encourage students to dress appropriately for the
weather. I noticed several students in flip flops this morning. We also will go outside for lunch most days and students need to bring a coat or jacket with them to the cafeteria.

Parents—If you have a 6th or 7th grader that is open enrolled to Newton from outside of the LPS district, you need to submit an Intent to Renew Form for next year. If you have an 8 th grader that is open enrolled and planning on attending High School in LPS you will need to submit an open enrollment request to that specific High School.

In the mornings if you drop students off in the East parking lot please pull forward to the cross walk to
drop off your students as the buses are coming in through the bus loop and have a difficult time seeing
the students if they are dropped off sooner and cross through the bus loop in front of traffic. The safest
route to the building is for students to walk on the cross walk.

Another reminder regarding parent/student/teacher conferences, the dates for conferences are
October 17th and 18th from 4:00 to 7:30. More specific information regarding conferences is located on
our website.

I hope everyone has a great weekend, stay warm.

Respectfully,

James O’Tremba
Principal, Newton Middle School
