Dear Parents/Guardians:
We have some important upcoming events that will be
occurring here at Newton next week. Our fall book fair will begin Monday,
October 28th and run through Friday, November 1st.
Specific hours and event schedule for the book fair are listed on the front
page of our website.
We will also be hosting our annual Halloween Dance on
Thursday, October 31st from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Students can turn in
6 CODE cards at lunch and receive entry into the dance at 2:00 pm and receive a
soda and piece of pizza. If student do not have 6 CODE cards they can
pre-purchase tickets at lunch, the fee is $3.00 to gain entry into the dance or
$5.00 for dance entry, soda and a piece of pizza. The dance will end promptly
at 4:00 pm and we will have late buses available. If you are picking up your
child please use the east parking lot.
Students are allowed to wear costumes for the dance.
Students can bring their costumes to school on Thursday and are allowed to
change into their costumes when we release them for the dance. We do have some
restrictions. Students cannot wear masks and the costumes need to be
appropriate for school. Students are not allowed to bring props such as
facsimile guns, knives, swords etc. If you have a question regarding a costume
or prop feel free to contact an administrator ahead of time.
We are looking forward to a great week of events. The
book fair and Halloween Dance are always two student favorites. This year our
dance is being sponsored by our Newton Student Government and our Newton PTO. Thank
you to our parents and Student Government for sponsoring this event.
Destination Imagination is a project based learning
program that teaches students to be the innovators of the future by combining
the arts, sciences and technology with creativity, teamwork and problem
solving.
South Metro Destination Imagination is presenting a
Creativity Night for LPS students and parents on
Tuesday evening, November 5 at Goddard Middle School to acquaint
students and parents with the DI program. This will be a fun evening where
students and parents can learn creative problem solving skills and try some fun
Instant Challenges.
Destination Imagination is a parent driven activity. On
Creativity Night parents will learn what is involved, have their questions
answered and connect with other parents who might be interested in having their
students participate on DI teams. DI may not be a good fit for everyone
who attends this fun creativity night. Students and parents who attend this
information night are not obligated to participate in the regular DI program.
Please see the attached flyer for additional information.
If you have any questions or concerns feel free to
contact me here at Newton.
Have a great weekend.
Respectfully,
James O’Tremba
Principal, Newton Middle School
