December 6th, 2013

Good Afternoon Parents/Guardians:

Looking ahead I have several reminders for you regarding important events here at Newton. Next week we will be hosting our annual choir, band, orchestra and guitar concerts. Our orchestra/guitar concert will be held on Monday the 9th, our band concert will be Tuesday the 10th and finally our choir concert on Thursday the 12th. All start times will be 7:00 pm in our gym. All are welcome to attend.

As we finish the end of the first semester I want to outline for you how our grades are done. Our teachers will have until 4:00 pm on January the 6th to enter final grades for the semester. For 6th grade parents and parents new to our building these are our report card grades. You will not receive a paper copy of the report card. All grades are accessed through your parent/student portal account.

On Wednesday, January 15th we will conduct our awards/recognition assemblies. This will include first semester honor roll. All teachers are required to give to awards per classroom to recognize students. When we finish with the recognition awards we will distribute the first semester honor roll certificates. We will begin the day with the 8th grade awards at 8:00 am, 7th grade at 9:30 am and our 6th grade at 12:45 pm. The assemblies will take place in our gym, all parents are welcome.

I want to remind you that as the end of the year arrives we are still seeking contributions to our annual pledge drive. Our pledge drive is 100% tax deductible and all of the money received goes to our Newton PTO. If you have not made a pledge it is not too late to do so. You can pledge on the front page of our website by clicking on the PTO button and then clicking the Donate button under the Brighter Futures Pledge Drive heading.

We are also seeking members to our Accountability Committee. We meet once a month at 4:00 pm in our library on the following dates:  January 16th, February 20th, March 20th and April 17th. If you are interested please feel free to contact me.

Have a great weekend.

Respectfully,

James O’Tremba
Principal, Newton Middle School
