March 12th, 2021

Good Evening Parents, Students and Guardians:

Return to Full Time In Person Learning

It has been a year since we have had all of our students 100% in person learning here at Newton Middle School and LPS. I want to welcome all of our students back to school, 100% in person on Monday, March 15th. We will no longer have any virtual school days for the remaining  of this school year. I encourage students to do your best and finish strong. I am attaching the class schedule to this email. Please contact us if you have any questions. This Wednesday, March 17th will be an in person EVEN class day for  ALL STUDENTS.

Expectations for our return to school will be very similar to our hybrid learning model. All students will be required to wear their masks to school. We do have some students who are asking for a mask every single day. I am about out of my supply for supplemental masks so please remind your student to bring a mask every day to school and only come to the main office to request a mask if absolutely needed. I understand students may occasionally forget to bring a mask and we can accommodate those requests.

We will continue to encourage students to wash their hands, use the antibacterial dispensers throughout the building, we will encourage social distancing and do our best to social distance students in the classrooms. Students will not be assigned lockers and will need to move from one class to another in an efficient manner and I am asking students to not congregate in the hallways and keep socializing to a minimum between class periods.

Registration for 21-22 School Year

Registration information for all students for the fall of 2021 will be sent out next Friday, March 19th. This year registration will be done electronically. Sixth graders will again be scheduled into all of their classes including electives as sixth graders take all electives offered. The only option for sixth graders to decide is if you will take band or orchestra. Again, keep an eye out for class registration for the fall next Friday.

CMAS Testing Update

We will be conducting CMAS testing in one form or another in April. We are still waiting to hear what the state legislature will decide regarding the number of tests the students will take. This year the opt out process will be different than it has been in the past in LPS. I will no longer accept any emails or opt out paper forms. If you decide to opt your student out of testing you will need to complete the process in your infinite campus portal. Links to the instructions for the opt out process are located below:

How to opt out (English)

How to opt out (Spanish)

TOPS students will need to take the CMAS testing in person at their home school. If you are a TOPS family and wish to opt your student out of testing please follow the links listed above.

If you have any questions please let me know. Have a great weekend and I am looking forward to seeing all of our students on Monday the 15th.
